Work on Cruise Lines

LIFE ONBOARD

Life onboard a cruise ship is quite different from that on land. There is an adjustment period that most new members experience. Some experience homesickness, few experience seasickness and others feel a bit claustrophobic. However, these are feelings that most overcome in a  short period of time.
However, you are about to embark on a wonderful and challenging adventure. Life at sea is certainly an experience you will not regret. The friends you will make become your family away from home, and even though you will be working hard, there will be time to relax, enjoy and have some fun. You will be offered monthly Crew Parties which generally include a theme, activities and games. Once on board, you can`t miss out on the FUN.
You will work for the the most popular cruise lines in the world, which offer 3, 4 and 7 day cruises to the Caribbean, Bahamas, Mexican Riviera and Baja Mexico. In addition, they offer  longer cruises through the Panama Canal, to Alaska and Hawaii.
Cruise companies attract such a  wide spectrum of guests as well as staff members. Afterall, all staff and crew come from all over the world.
SO, WELCOME ABOARD!!! We hope you will enjoy being a member of cruise team. We look forward to working with you.

SIGN ON REQUIREMENTS

• A Valid Passport
• A C1\D Visa – this multiple entry visa is a requirement.
• The visa and passport must be valid for a minimum of one (1) year.
• Police Clearance

EMPLOYMENT LETTER

Since you are accepted by Cruise Company, they will send you an Employment Letter. This letter is to help you obtain a “C1\D” Visa from the U.S. Embassy in your home country. It will also help you clear U.S. Immigration when you enter the United States.
We suggest that you wait until you receive the Employment Letter prior to applying for the visa.

MEDICAL

All Crewmembers are required to undergo a full Medical Examination before joining the ship; this is a U.S. Coast Guard regulation. The Medical Exam is at your own expense. Once on board, all emergency medical treatment is provided by a Cruise company. There is a doctor onboard to treat all medical needs. When joining the vessel, please bring a copy of your medical with all the lab results with you to the ship.
Your passport, medical examination results and data sheet will be collected onboard the vessel at sign on. Please have all documents ready when you leave the hotel.
N.B.: Without these documents you will not be permitted to work onboard. If you do not have these documents the day you are required to start work, you will be denied boarding.

CABINS

Upon arrival, you will be assigned a cabin. Usually, you will share your cabin with another person from your department (same gender). You will have limited space, so please pack accordingly. The cabins are furnished with bunk beds, closets, drawers, shelves, a desk, TV-VCR and a bathroom, which contains a shower, sink, toilet and additional shelves for toiletries. All bed linens and towels are provided for you upon arrival.

MEALS

All meals are provided for you in the Crew Mess or Officer`s Mess (dining room) free of charge. There are set meals times.

LAUNDRY

A utility room is available to all staff and crew free of charge. This includes washing machines, tumble dryers and ironing facilities. Guest laundry facilities are also available to staff members at selected times; however, these are not free of charge. In addition, staff members may send their clothing to the laundry on board for a charge.

TELEPHONES

In the ports of call and home ports, there are public pay phones as well as calling stations available to call home. Additionally, in many ports, phone cards may be purchased at calling stations, post offices, stores, etc. In case of emergency you can call straight from the ship, but it would expensive as it is done via satellite.

INTERNET

There is internet access onboard every vessel where you can check your accounts and send personal emails.

CLOTHING

Knowhing what types of clothes and toiletries to bring with you is not always easy. Although the days tend to be warm year round, the nights may be cooler depending on the time of the year. Due to air conditioning, the ship may be cold at any time. You will need clothes to wear while visiting the ports of call during your time off. Please remember if you are out in guest areas while you are onboard the vessel, regardless if you are working or not, YOU MUST BE IN PROPER UNIFORM.
Below is the list of suggested everyday items to bring along. Afterall, you will not be in your uniform at all times. We have also included some pesonal items that might help to make your cabin feel more like home. Remember, you can always bring more or less than the suggested amount of clothing we have listed. This is just a guideline to help make your packing a little easier. Just don`t forget that space in  the cabin is limited. Besides, there are clothing stores and toiletries shops available in most ports.
