Hospitality Work Experience
INTRODUCTION TO HOSPITALITY MANAGEMENT (SANDWICH COURSE IN GREAT BRITAIN)
COURSE DESCRIPTION
The course is designed for all students who are considering a career in the hospitality industry. There is an initial teaching element for a set period of weeks, and gives a basic introduction to catering and hospitality management. The practical element introduces the student to common working practices in the UK catering industry. Whilst on placement students will do a work-related project. Students return to school for 1-2 weeks to complete course work and validation. Students receive information about their accommodation prior to the course start date. The course leads to an externally validated qualification by the University of Cambridge International Examinations. (CIE) There are 2 versions of the above course: 21 weeks for those students who have an upper intermediate level or above; and 32 weeks for students with an intermediate level or above.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
• 18 – 30 years of age • An upper intermediate English language level (IELTS 5.5/B2 CEF) or above for IHM21 • An Intermediate English language level (IELTS 4.5/B1 CEF) or above for IHM32 • Previous training or experience an advantage.
COURSE CONTENT
• IHM21 – 4 weeks study + 16 weeks practical element + 1 week course completion & evaluation • IHM32 – 6 weeks study + 24 weeks practical element + 2 week course completion & evaluation .
TUITION
• 20 lessons per week in school for 4 or 6 weeks prior to placement • 20 lessons per week in school for 1 or 2 weeks after placement • Specialist English for Catering and Hospitality • Introduction to Hospitality management • Accommodation arranged by English 2000 in Host Family.
WORK EXPERIENCE
• 16 week or 24 week work placement within UK in the hospitality/ catering industry • Hours specified by the Placement Provider (usually a full time position) • National Minimum Wage • Accommodation arranged either by the placement provider or external accommodation through English 2000.
COURSE DATES
• IHM 21 (4 + 16 + 1 WEEK) • 15/1, 12/2,12/3, 9/4, 7/5, 4/6, 2/7, 27/8, 24/9, 22/10 • IHM 32 (6 + 24 + 2 WEEK) • 12/2, 26/3, 7/5, 18/6, 30/7, 10/9, 22/10.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
• Familiarisation with everyday conversational English • Familiarisation with specialised English for work placement • Introduction to the international hospitality and catering industry • Preparation for work placement in the UK • Increased self-sufficiency and confidence .
COURSE ACCREDITATION
• Students successfully completing the course obtain: • A College Language Certificate • The University of Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) Certificate in Work Experience • The Test Of English For International Communication TOEIC (optional) • A work reference from the placement provider (if required).
DOCUMENTS FOR VISA PROCEDURE
• You will have to fill in a VAF 1 form • You will need a letter from the school confirming your course • Also you will need financial documents proving that you can support yourself in Great Britain (e.g. bank statement) • Passport • Other documents.
NOTE:
The whole amount of the program should be paid after having visa issued! The following are not included in tuition fee: travel, for example to/ from host family accommodation, visa insurance, accommodation fee, personal and health insurance and consular fee etc.
